Alex Rodriguez Catches Up With Bat Dog Derby
The New York Yankees fans were really excited to have their big star Alex Rodriguez back from a hamstring injury. But, to their surprise, he ended up playing two games for a minor league team, the Trenton Thunder, instead.
During one of the games, he got to catch up with an old friend of his called Derby, one of Trenton Thunder’s bat dogs.

The two of them go way back to 2013 when A-Rod was doing another stint in the minors due to injury. Back then, he himself posted a pic with one of team’s dynamic canine helpers.

By now, you are probably wondering what we are talking about. Well, the Double-A Yankees’ affiliate team employs two bat dogs at the moment, Derby andRookie, who also happens to be Derby’s son.
By the way, Derby also learned the trade from his dad Chase who used to be part of the Trent Thunder back in the day. He had a retirement party and all.
Derby and his boy were covered in a story some time ago and you can check it out below.
In short, the dogs are part of the team and they retrieve their hitters’ bats when they slug and run. It is a huge thing for the fans and a fantastic PR move.
It also makes the dogs very, very happy.
If this is not a happy dog, then what dog is?
