Australia Threatens To Euthanize Johnny Depp’s Dogs
Australian officials have ordered Hollywood superstar Johnny Depp to get his two pet dogs out of the country by Saturday or they will be euthanized.
Agriculture Minister Barnaby Joyce accused Depp of smuggling his two Yorkshire Terriers Pistol and Boo aboard his private plane last month when he returned to the Land Down Under to continue filming the 5th installment in the ‘’Pirates of the Caribbean’’ film series. He suggested that Depp use the same jet to send the pooches home.
Joyce added that people who want to bring their pets into Australia need to have proper documentation and go through the quarantine process.
Here’s what he said in a video posted by ABC Australia:
“It’s time that Pistol and Boo buggered off back to the United States. The reason you can walk through a park in Brisbane and not have in the back of your mind ‘what happens if a rabid dog comes out and bites me or bites my kid’ is because we’ve kept that disease out. I’ll tell you how close it is: it’s in Bali, it’s just next door. So this is not fanciful stuff, and therefore we’re very diligent about what comes into our nation.”
The Minister also said that he cannot and will not bend the rules for celebrities, even if they are worldwide famous icons such as Depp. To quote him:
“If we start letting movie stars –- even though they’ve been the sexiest man alive twice — to come into our nation then why don’t we just break the laws for everybody?”
The pups are currently in a home quarantine, and fans across the globe have created a petition to save the actor’s dogs. However, Joyce insisted that the only way to save the animals is to send them home to the States.
