We have all heard about drones participating in dangerous missions, but now these unmanned aircrafts are being used for a much gentler reason – to track down stray dogs.

Tom McPhee, executive director of World Animal Awareness Society told USA Today that drones are another amazing tools that will help them find and save dogs before it’s too late. In order to raise awareness, the society is filming a new TV show named “Operation Houston: Stray Dog City”.

Since Houston has a serious stray dog problem, McPhee first wants to present stories about kind-hearted people who are trying to help the dogs, and then launch his drones across the city.

Volunteers on the ground will help him find and count the number of strays. Shockingly, estimates say that there are over one million stray dogs in the Houston area alone.

If you would like to help with the stray dogs, you can register until Thursday, March 26th. More information can be found at http://www.WA2S.org/operation-houston
