8 Sports For You And Your Furry Friend

We all know how hard it can be to exercise all by yourself. Why would you, when you can easily do it with your dog. Here are some of the best ways to bond with your dog and do healthy things that both of you can enjoy.

1. Exercise at home

You can easily train your dog to repeat some easier exercises that you are doing. Let your dog be your support and be sure to give him a treat after your exercise time is over. Your dog will feel better and you will teach him how to train by your side.

2. Take a walk

If you don’t want to burden your dog with some difficult workouts, you can always take him outside. Fresh air, a slow walk by the river and the amazing amount of time spent doing something good for yours and your dog’s health.

3. Run

[mnright]Maybe after a week or two of walking you can start running with your dog. You will be amazed at how much strength dogs have and how much they will help you. If you want to get fit, this is the right way to do it, so take your dog for a morning run.

4. Frisbee

Go to the park with your dog and you will be surprised how many opportunities will open up. You can always bring a frisbee and play. Dogs love it, and you too will enjoy playing this active game with your best furry friend.

Interestingly enough, there is even a game called ‘Disc dog’ or ‘Frisbee dog’.  In such competitions, dogs and their owners (called human flying disc throwers, believe it or not) compete in catching events!  Some of the categories include ‘toss and fetch’, ‘freestyle’ and ‘long distance’.  The sport originated in the 1970s and today several tournaments are held around the world.  It is estimated that over a million dogs participate in this sport in the United States alone!

5. Soccer

Go out and play football with your dog. It’s going to be a great way to teach him something new and to stay in shape yourself.

Also, your dog’s reflexes will get better and it’s a fun way of teaching him how to follow orders.

6. Mountain climbing

If you think your dog can handle it, go for it and try climbing a mountain. The clear air can only do good for the both of you, and you will see how your dog can handle tougher sports.

This is definitely a great way to exercise with your dog. If you don’t have the option of mountain climbing, woods are a great substitute.

7. Hunting

If you are into hunting you should definitely do it with your dog. [mnright]They are fast, their sense of smell is amazing and they can also spot anything and run for it, which ultimately helps you.

8. Swimming

Swimming is a great way to stay in shape and play with your dog. You can include a ball, a stick or a frisbee. Swimming will make your dog more resistant to stress and strains, which will turn him into a stronger animal, not to mention the slimming effect it will have on you.

Some breeds are natural water dogs and require no training or acclimation to water.  But fear not, even the breeds that aren’t water dogs can enjoy swimming!  It is recommended that you introduce your dog to water as soon as possible and that the first encounter with water be a pleasant one.  After that, it’s all a piece of cake!  Find out what suits you and your dog best and enjoy the swim!
