Everything You Need to Know about Dog Bathing

Most dogs hate bath time, but you still need to wash them to keep them clean and healthy.  Although a lot of pooches only require bathing once a month, there are some exceptions to this rule.

For example, dogs with oily coats, like Basset Hounds, need to be washed once a week, while short-haired breeds with smooth coats, such as Beagles, and Northern breeds shouldn’t be bathed frequently.

Of course, if your dog lives in the countryside or spends a lot of time outdoors, you may want to bathe them frequently.  On the other hand, dogs who live in apartments in the city don’t need to be washed that often.

When you decide that your dog definitely needs a bath, there are some basic steps you should follow. Firstly, brush you dog before the bath and place cotton balls in their ears to prevent ear infections and irritation.  Use lukewarm water and always buy dog shampoos.  Make sure that they don’t get soap in their eyes and rinse the shampoo carefully.  After air-drying your dog, reward them for all the troubles they endured during bathing.
