Hero Dog Who Risked Her Life In House Fire To Save Owner Is In Critical Condition

Although a 9-year-old Boxer named Carmen could have escaped a burning house uninjured, the brave dog did her best to save her owner’s life. When a horrific fire broke out in the basement of a Cincinnati home, Carmen used her body to shield Ben Ledford and protect his face from all the fire and smoke.

Unfortunately, the dog wasn’t able to save Ledford. He was taken to a hospital as soon as possible where he passed away. And vets are now fighting to save his heroic dog’s life.

The pooch is mentally alert, but cannot breathe on her own. Cr. Daniel Carey told WCPO that she is doing fine, but that her lungs are severely damaged. They are, however, hoping that she will come odd the ventilator soon.

Dr. Marlo Anderson said that he wasn’t surprised to hear Carmen tried to save her human.

A lot of dogs instinctively know when there’s a crisis going on and so a lot of them do go to try to protect their owners, so she very well may have been trying to protect him.

Despite their grief, Ledford’s family and friends are there for Carmen. They are trying to raise funds to help pay her medical bills and hope to see her fully recovered.
